Take a look at the new linkon the home page to take you to our new Spawning Page. This aims to keep you up to date on what is happening this Spring with our breedings, and shows some new parent combinations we are trying out.
December 4th
Once again a poor effort with keeping you updated, but we've been too busy spending well earned holidays in the sun! Rick has just returned from Sri Lanka, and I've (Carl) just been fishing in the Gambia. I return to give you a few photos of some new big fish in our shop now, from 45 to 58cm. We have been busy getting the farm ready for next season too, braving the cold and wet weather to ensure we are all set for a bumper breeding season.

Yesterday we hosted the Wessex and Southern Koi Society. They were able to witness the harvest of one of our mudponds, and pictures of some of the fish harvested are on the harvest page of this site. The weather was fairly kind to us and we hope they enjoyed their day..

This stunning bowl of Omosako line Shiro Utsuri demonstrates just how far we have come in the last couple of years, these fish will be overwintered indoors, around 20 degrees C, so we can safely monitor their progress. For more pics, see the Harvest Page.
September 19th
The harvest continues, and as well as some stunning tanks of Koi, the shop receives a restocking of green tench, golden tench, golden orfe and carp.
September 15th
Our Autumn harvest has begun, the first mud pond is drained and the fish available to view in our shop, with more to come later this week. Keep an eye on the Harvest Page for full details and pictures. The tosai house is being prepared, ready for this years best babies, with an estimated 10,000 good grade Koi to be overwintered indoors. The best 100 Nissai Shiros are to be put into a heated system for the winter, before being moved out to a mud pond next Spring, to be finished and ready for sale this time next year.
July 17th
Our Jumbo Male Kigoi has caused a stir this season with an experimental breeding. It wasn't ready to spawn with its normal partner, so was paired with a different female, and the results look fantastic, with excellent looking baby Kigoi and Chagoi, that are looking a bit special in terms of amazing growth!
July 16th
This year is flying past, and its hard to believe our fry season is almost over. Some pictures have been building up without a home, so i'll put them here now for you all to see what we have been up to.
This is just some of an amazing harvest of 2 year old Momotaro Line Kohaku and Sanke, now available to view and buy in our shop. The biggest and very best of these fish are being grown for another year, and some even kept as potential future broodstock. This bowl of 2-3" Showa and Shiro Utsuri are available in our shop now, along with a tank of great goshiki. There can't be many places in the country where you can go and hand select 2-3" fish of these varieties!!
June 5th
The past couple of weeks has been very busy, and we've broken new records for the amount of boxes leaving on our mail order service. This is largely due to people taking advantage of our koi fry mixes. All the fish on the farm are flying along. So long as we have some good weather over the next couple of months, we hope to treat you to another great autumn harvest! More pics will appear here very soon, as soon as I get time to sort them out!
May 16
Our fry season is going full belt, with many fish stocked out to the ongrowing ponds in the last few days of sunny weather. Growth is looking good, and we should soon have 6-8 week old fry batches available for people, on schedule for early June. The picture below shows some of the 7-8" Sanke currently available for just £25! Come and visit soon to see the rest of this superb harvest, that includes shusui, kohaku, ogon, hariwake, kikokuryu, showa, shiro utsuri, and more stunning Sanke like these! We think you'd struggle to find better for the money.

APRIL 22
The first Koi Fry of the season are hatching as we speak, with Doitsu Hariwake, Platinums, Kujaku and Doitsu Kujaku having been through the breeding tunnel. More fish are due to be spawned over the next few days, and we'll try to keep you informed! As the broodfish move throught he breeding tunnels, we'll try to get more updated pics, and hopefully introduce you to some new parents. Elsewhere on the site, Shauns new 30,000 gallon garden pond has appeared, built in less than two weeks, and just the final touches to the filter remain before the first fish will be introduced. The pictures below show how it developed!
MARCH 10
Once again we have been slow on updating you, but this weeks stormy weather should give me plenty of time to catch up with the site. If you are interested in having some fry this year, email us as soon as possible with some rough idea of quantities etc, so we can get you onto the waiting list. Our shop is now open full time, 7 days a week from 9.30 until 5pm. This includes bank holidays, so we look forward to seeing a lot of you over the Easter period. The last couple of months has seen us preparing fopr the new season, creating new fry ponds, predator netting the mud ponds, and generally getting the farm into shape. Keep an eye on the brood page this season, with more new parents being put to the test this year. We have some interesting pics for the development page too, and hopefully this will be updated this week.
JANUARY 29 2008
Many apologies agian for the lack of updates to the site!! We are fast approaching the new season, with the shop open once again from March. Breeding will also hopefully start around the same time, and we are hastily completing projects across the farm, with ponds being redesigned, and more predator protection being installed around some of the mud ponds. A new floor is being laid in the shop this week too. If you are looking to restock this Spring, contact us soon to get the best we have to offer, including the fantastic 14-18" fish, seen in the picture, from our Autumn harvest!
December 14
As we approach our last week before Xmas, may we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and hope to see many of you in the new season. Hopefully we will have all recovered from Flu by then! Over the holiday period, our office will be manned only occasionally, so we apologise if we do not return any contact immediately. Normal business will resume from January 3rd, and we will catch up with everyone from then onwards. If you have any concerns about your fish then leave us an email so we can reply as soon as we can. Best Fishes for Xmas, from all at New Forest Koi
December 7
As the season draws to a close for xmas we would like to say a big thank you to all our customers for helping us have another very good year! I hope you all have a top holiday break though i won't be here for the new year, my itchy feet means im off to Peru! We would like to take this opportunity to thank the South West koi club for paying us a visit, but not for taking one of the best doitsu Sanke we've ever done! Only kidding, hope it looks great in your pond! rgds, Rick.
November 16
We hope your Koi are dealing with the cold snap well. Our fish seem to be a lot less miserable about it than we are! Good job I'm off to Spain on Sunday!!!! All calls to Richard for the next week please! We've seen the end of our harvest now, and I'm currently processing some more pictures for you to view. The work hasn't stopped here, as we now have to make sure all the fish we have harvested are kept alive and well throughout the winter. Our mail order service continues as normal with hundreds of small koi leaving the site each week. Our shop is closed at the moment but if you would like to come and view/purchase some fish, then give us a call, we are always open by appointment, Monday to Friday.
October 23rd
We are down to the last few ponds on the harvest, for which we are grateful as the water temperatures are now seriously uncomfortable in leaky waders! As for the good and bad news, this years Sanke are not as good as last year, even though a higher quality female was used with the same male. On the plus side we have definately produced our best Shiro, Showa, Goshiki and Chagoi ever! Shusui, Ogon, Doitsu Showa, Gin Rin Sanke, Doitsu Kohaku and Hirawake from our tried and tested parents have all been fantastic. Some pics below show some of the small fish showing great potential.
October 23rd
Apologies again for the lack of updates, but the harvest must take priority! If anyone is interested there are hundreds of koi from 1" to 4 inch available, so give us a call to make an order. This weekend we have been entertaining the South West Koi Club, giving them a demonstration of our netting skills! Fortunately the harvest was a success and we had plenty of new fish to show their members. We hope they enjoyed their visit as much as we enjoyed having them here.
October 10th
We don't just breed Koi! Pictured from our harvest is a bowl of Oranda Redcaps, bred by Shauns son Lawrence. Also harvested this week include this years Ogon, Hariwake and Chagoi, all with some very promising results. We have been short of these varieties this year, but hopefully be more able to supply our customers over the next two years with some of the best we've ever produced. Keep an eye out on the HARVEST page for more pictures!
October 6th
The pictures on the left show the same fish at 3 months onld and 18 months old, and we'd just like to show them to give customers an inpression of how fish develop. With so many people now enjoying our younger batches of fish, from fry through to 4-5" Koi, we feel its only fair to show what to look out for in your young fish. Look out for more developments on the website with this idea in mind, hopefully appearing at some point this winter when i get bored and its too cold to be out playing with fish!!
Keep an eye out on our AUTUMN HARVEST page for all the latest developments and pictures from our harvesting efforts this autumn. Contact us as soon as you can for 1-2", 2-3" or 4-5" Koi. The mix on these fish is getting better by the day, so get your orders in now!
September 26
This week sees the proper start of the Autumn Harvest, with the first couple of ponds drained down. A rough plan for the next month goes as follows: 12 ponds of 18 month old fish to be graded and seperated between 2 other fish houses. 35 Tosai ponds to drain, grade and move to their winter quarters, and 10 mud ponds of 2nd and 3rd year Koi to move...INTO OUR SHOP! A lot of people have been waiting for this time of yea, with something in the region of 1500 2 year olds and 300 3 year old fish to come and view! Keep coming back for pictures of the harvest as it happens, here on Latest News!
Let us not forget the 35,000 fish from this years spawnings that simply will not fit into the shop. All are just a phone call away for either mail order or delivery to your door.
September 6
Hi, just a heads up to anyone looking to grow on some special fish this winter. High Grade 3-4" fish are looking stunning at the moment, with a great selection of Kohaku, Sanke, Showa, Shiro Utsuri. Availability very limited.
September 5
Pictured below are some of the ponds around our farm, with their respective stock happily feeding away. Our Autumn harvest is not too far away now, so keep checking back throughout October for the latest pictures and information.
August 16
Sorry for the lack of recent updates! Things are starting to grow across the farm now as average temps seem to be creeping up a little. Our fry season is now over, but we do have large numbers of 1-2 and 2-3 inch fish coming through the system. High grade 4-5 inch kohaku sanke showa utsuri mixes are still available too. The series of pics below show some larger fish photographed as they left the ongrowing sheds, and then pictured a few weeks later after being 'finished' in natural light outdoors.
July 9th
Just 2 more breedings to go. Gin Rin Hi Utsuri and Doitsu Kohaku which should finish the season with 40 Females having been through the system. Some of the early spawnings are now big enough to see how successful they were, and it looks like this year could be year of the Shiro Utsuri! Last year it was the Sanke that were paticularly special, so watch out for our harvest this Autumn!
May 25th
Another selection of Tosai we have been grading through. We appreciate that customers do not get to see the fish on the farm, so hope that these updates give you a taste of what is going on, and the fish we will have available for you in the future. As ever, we would encourage customers to call us or email to discuss specific requirements. The shop is looking good and stocked ready for the Bank Holiday weekend. The weather does not look to good if your were planning a trip to the beach, so come and see us instead!! Spawning has been a staggering success this year, with a total of 38 sets used, giving us fry from just about every variety you can imagine. the good news is the new parents we have shown you here, including Momotaro Showa, have been spawned too! Times are very exciting, and we will share as much as we can with you here!
May 22th
Another harvest and some more great fish on offer! We have been going through our tosai house, recently seen in Koi Carp Magazine, putting a few hundred out into our mud ponds for growing on this summer, and leaving us with a great selection of 4-5", 5-6" and 6-7" fish available for sale now! Contact us if you are interested in some great Kohaku, Sanke, Showa, Hi Utsuri and Shiro Utsuri to grow on!
May 22th
Thanks to a marathon breeding session over the last 24 hours, Rick has managed to fill the hatchery with around ! MILLION eggs, from a variety of exciting parent sets, including Kohaku, Goshiki, Doitsu Showa, Kin Showa and Shiro Utsuri. We will of course keep you informed of their progress. 2-3 week old fry availability is soon to be very high, from some superb sets of parents, and we recommend you get your orders in now. Our next issue is finding time to grade for the small percentage we have room to keep on the farm!! Hopefully some long hot afternoons out in the sun on the way! I think Rick is off to sleep for 3 days after a frantic couple of nights spawning (the fish!).
May 18th (3)
More updates! On the top row below you can see Dad on the left, with a one year old offspring on the right, on of his best yet! Below this are some more shots of some cracking one year olds around 12" in length. As for the FA Cup this weekend (can't work all the time!) COME ON THE BLUES!!!
May 18th (2)
Pictured left are shots of some new broodfish we will be using this year. Both fish are 4 year old Momotaro fish, that we have great hopes for, and hope to be able to show you some offspring later this year.
May 18th
While most of our thoughts concentrate on fry at this time of year, check out the fish in the pics below from our latest harvest of one of our fish sheds. Having spent the winter indoors, they are being moved out to mud ponds for 'finishing', ready for our Autumn harvest. This Autumn will be our most exciting harvest to date, with fish quality and number of varieties at an all time high. Next availability on fry is going to be around 4 weeks time. The latest fish spawned have been Doitsu Sanke, Doitsu Kohaku, Hariwake and Platinum Ogon. Don't forget to come and visit over the Bank Holiday weekend, to get the best of yet another new crop of fish coming into the shop from around the farm.
The next round of spawnings, if all goes to plan, will include MOMOTARO KOHAKU, SANKE AND SHOWA, TAKEDA SHOWA, OMASAKO SHIRO, along with Kin Showa, Doitsu Showa, Goshiki and MATSUNOSUKE SANKE!!!
April 13th
Our Koi Fry have just started leaving the door. This photo shows a customers grandson taking an interest in fry rearing, and a great example of how rearing fry can add interest to your Koi keeping, for all the family! Get your orders in early to make sure you don't miss out on this years fry.
April 13th
Hi again. Rick has been snapping away again at some of the better 1 year old fish being sorted through at the moment. Please note these fish are not available for sale, but we'd like to show you the quality of some of the fish coming through the system. All born last Spring and between 15 and 30cm. I (Carl) am off on holiday (again!!) next week, so if you want to speak to me, I'm afraid you'll need to hold on until the 24th. The others will be around as usual, except Rick who is off to the Coarse Fish Farm Trade Association meetings at the start of the week. (Any excuse to get out of work!)
Also for your interest, below are pictures of 2 year old fish bought last year with a view to using as new parents. We show pictures of when they were bought (above), and what they look like a year on. An interesting insight into the development of this variety. We would ask customers who buy shiro utsuri from us at a young age to take note of this development in the 2-3 year old class. They are a variety to be patient with, to sit back, watch and admire their development. They have just been spawned for the first time this week.
April 3rd
INTRODUCING TO YOU SOME OF THE FISH FROM A HARVEST OF TWO YEAR OLDS. THESE FISH ARE SOME OF THE BEST FISH WE HAVE PRODUCED, WITH MANY HITTING UP TO 55CM IN LESS THAN 24 MONTHS! THESE FISH HAVE BEEN GROWN ON INDOORS, AND ARE NOW BEING PUT OUTDOORS TO RETURN THE HI PATTERNS TO THEIR TRUE DEPTH.
March 30
Our farm has been transformed this week with the help of Sparsholt College student James 'Peter Crouch' McKay. Its the first time ever Peter Crouch has been seen to use his head! Many Thanks to James for all his help over the past three weeks in harvesting our ponds for Easter, and making our ponds more predator proof for the Spring. If he beats me at fishing again though he is going in the deepest pond I can find. A reminder to you all that we are open all Easter, and below is a view of our sales areas full of fish waiting for you to take them home.
This week we have bred our first Koi (and shubunkins!) of the season, putting us slightly ahead on last year. These gin rin Sanke should be gracing customers tanks in 6-8 weeks time. Rick and I (Carl)are celebrating the purchase of new cars, we now have matching Astras rather than Fiestas! Business must be doing well. We haven't got round to the matching anoraks yet.
March 2nd
Our shop is now fully open again, 7 days a week, 9.30 to 5pm. We look forward to seeing the regular faces again, and wish to welcome all new customers.
January 30th
Sorry for the long delay in updates over the winter. For the start of this year, you will be able to shop directly from our site, using either a paypal account or any debit/credit card. The Store button should appear very soon. This will enable customers to buy batches of fish, individuals, food and other goods faster, with no hassle! (hopefully!). I hope all our customers are enjoying their New Year, and we hope to see you soon when our shop re-opens in March.
