This page is to try and offer Koi Keepers more undertanding of the development of different Koi breedings. We feel this is important to show, due to the large number of our customers who buy fry and fingerlings from us. The page will be very much a work continually in progress, as we track the development of fish from parents, and various stages of their growth.
2006 Spawnings, 2007 Results!
all the koi pictured are 4months old in the first shot and 18 months old in the second.Kohakus from Momotaro, Eagle line x Sakai, Sakurahime line these koi are the best Kohakus weve produced to date and are better quality than the parents we were using 4 or 5 years ago! The biggest is pushing 50cm at just 18 months old! The Sankes are from Momotaro jumbo line koi x a female from Niigata the reason was to improve the number of sellable offspring whilst keeping good growth and with the largest looking to make 60cm by its 2nd birthday it seems to have worked! It used to take 4 years to get koi of this size and variety.

From the series of pictures it is clear to see the pattern of development. At 10 weeks, the better quality fry begin to show their potential, and 4 weeks on the metallic sheen is coming through. By 16 weeks the better fish are really starting to show their parents quality. We eagerly await to see how they will be in the Spring!
As with the Kin Showa, you will recognise some of the pics from aother pages

The development of the fish can once again be clearly seen above, with the last but one fish in the series showing signs of becoming very much like mother! From a black fry, the development by 10 weeks old is fascinating. The final fish in the series is going to be a stunning Showa. The white has cleared and the colours really starting to set.
