This page is an insight into a handful of the broodfish we use. Each year we use up to 60 different parent sets.

Kujaku/Doitsu Kujaku

kohaku broodstock kohaku broodstock New in 2008 this Kohaku set of very high quality produce very good patterned ofspring with intense colour but not likely to grow as large as the set below, though at present they are keeping up with the pace!
kohaku broodstock kohaku broodstock This pair (female a direct descendant of 1mtr plus Miko, (see bloodline info below), and male from different Matsue Jumbo line), will produce Koi that should grow massive but the patterns are already proving to be rather bland and slow to develop, although this should be of benefit in the long term.
sanke broodstock sanke broodstock This was another new set for 2008, the male has proved his quality over the last cuople of years, but this is the first time with this female. Results already look very good with some of the babies 10cm+, at just 8 weeks old. The black pigment is very strong and covering a lot of the red pattern, so it is hard to tell just how good they really are, but strength, growth and structure are all spot on at present.
shiro utsuri broodstock   This female shiro is of top quality in all aspects as a parent fish. Good stucture, fast growing, with intense black pigment and lovely skin. She is set to become our No. 1 shiro female, and her offspring are looking very promising again, pushing 10cm+ at 8 weeks old!

KOHAKU

mikoAs descendants of the Grand Champion Kohaku 'MIKO', shown left, we have great hopes for these fish, which we hope to use for the first time in 2008. As with all new parent stock, we are unable to predict results of the spawnings, but by following bloodlines and looking for the qualities we expect from a particular breeding, it is possible to get a better idea of how a particular pairing may work. The top end of the offspring we expect to be spectacular, although the percentage of such high quality fish from this breeding is likely to be miniscule, with perhaps less than one in 1000 fry worth growing on to a large size.
The fish below show our two females, and then the male who has some work to do in the Spring!!
